Backyard Chicken: Raising Seven Baby Chicks

April 1st, 2006:
Henna and I drive via Sonoma to Santa Rosa to pick up the seven little rascals.

well, not just for coffee ...

Now the hard part ... picking out seven chicks to take home.

April 2nd, 2006:
After adding a second light bulb the temperature in their coop is around 88 Fahrenheit. Now for some ultra-cute detail shots (follow the links).










April 3rd, 2006:
The Rhode Island Reds are still pretty yellow ... but they will turn red soon.

April 5th, 2006:
The one on the left that checks out the camera lens is always super curious. She is the most adventurous chick. I started calling her rascal.

April 6th, 2006:
Not sure why but they simply *love* to be fed. They always have feed in their feeder but they go crazy about the same feed being fed by hand.

April 8th, 2006:
They are growing fast. Yesterday they had their first worm. It's so funny to see them run after each other with the worm changing beek several times. Today was also the first day for three of them to spend a few minutes outside. After a few moments in awe they start scratching the gound.
