Labeling Cables
Cable labels are located in the closet in envelopes organized by size.
The number of labels remaining and last label ID made for that size
are on the front of the envelope.
Making New Cables
- Borrow the automatic labeller from John Thomas on 2nd floor (MSL)
- Set the slide on the left side of the display to "wire" and the
slide on the right side to "small."
- When you turn on the labeller, press ENTER to set the size. 711 should
be the default.
- Type in what you want on the label and press PRINT. We usually use
[length] [letter], for example on a 2 ft. cable, we'd label the first one "2
AA", then "2 AB", and so on.
- If you're doing a series of labels, pressing SERIAL and then PRINT will
print out the next label in the series. So, if you've just printed "2 AA",
pressing SERIAL will display "2 AB" in the window.
- Print out 2 labels for each cable. This way the label can wrap all the
way around each end of the cable and won't come off.
- Update the label log below and the amount of labels on the front of each
envelope.
