Moving an already formatted SCSI disk drive from one FreeBSD machine to another
For FreeBSD version 2.2.8
- Run /stand/sysinstall
- Choose configure
- Choose fdisk editor (page down to find it)
- choose sd2 (or sd1--the formatted drive you want to add)
- select the slice and write it by pressing the "w" key
- are you sure?...yes
- cancel from boot manager part
- fdisk completed successfully...okay
- "q" to quit
- cancel at boot manager
- cancel at select drives (make sure drive is still selected)
- choose L Label
- select sd21e and hit "m" to mount
- specify mount point (here, it's /playpen1) and okay
- make sure under Newfs it says "UFS N" and not "UFS Y" (Y means create a new UFS and N means don't)
- "w" to write
- sure?...yes
- cancel until you are out of everything
- Now add entry to fstab for the new drive. Be sure to use "sd..." as the device prefix
