Yup, It's me, Martin 'Stigu' Styner:

Currently I am back in the US (since July 2004) and working (again) at the University of North Carolina (UNC) in Chapel Hill this time as a Research Assistant Professor in the Departments of Computer Science and Psychiatry. I am currently also Co-director of the Developmental Neuroimaging Core at the Neurodevelopmental Disorders Research Center (NDRC) at UNC.

The professional/education story so far: Let's start in Fall 1991: after finishing my matura at the High school (Kanti Solothurn), I started studying computer science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH Zürich . Above, there is a picture showing some of the students, colleagues and friends that finished their studies in Computer Science the same time I did. Starting Spring 97, for one and a half year, I worked as a scientific assistant in the Image Science Group BIWI at ETH Zürich. Then in July 98, I moved to the US, to the University of North Carolina UNC at Chapel Hill and joined the Department of Computer Science. I finished my PhD there in Summer 2001 and then worked for a full year at the Duke Image Analysis Laboratory. In Summer 2002, I returned along with my wife Maya back to Switzerland, where I worked as a group head in the Maurice E. Mueller Institute for Surgical Technology and Biomechanics. 2 years later, we moved back to the Chapel Hill and now we'll see where the future will take us.

Besides playing soccer (played over 10 years with FC Subingen and about 3 years with FC Altstetten), I enjoy also watching soccer matches, especially those of the Swiss national team. Some of the matches of the Swiss national team were also the main motivation for me and some my friends to visit foreign countries. During qualification for World cup 94 we visited Budapest (left image) and during European Championship 96 we traveled to Birmingham (center image). And of course we visited also the World Cup in France 98 (right image, lower left image), where I met the Swiss national soccer player Marco Grassi in Lyon after the match France-Denmark (right lower image).
