This committee reviews applications for graduate study, ranks the applicants, and selects fellowship nominees. The chair of this committee is the Director of Admissions.

Faculty are selected to provide representation across most of the department's active research areas. Two fairly senior graduate students are members of the committee and may be asked to help with folder review.

Committee on Building and Grounds (BLD)
This committee reviews the state of Sitterson Hall and its environs (exclusive of the computing environment) and identifies and prioritizes needs for repair, replacement, upgrades, etc. Safety and security are among the concerns of this committee (overlapping somewhat with DFC). This committee is also concerned with planning for functional and aesthetic enhancements of the building.

This committee has members from the staff and faculty. Two graduate students are appointed to this committee.

    CAPCOM is charged with

Faculty on this committee should include those with significant interest in major CAPCOM action items, a representative sampling of research areas, and a mix of new and veteran faculty to the extent possible.

There are three student members, one representing each of the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs.

Time requirement: 1 hour meeting per week, perhaps an average of 3 weeks per month. Subcommittee assignments may involve 5-10 hours per semester when CAPCOM is pursuing a significant project.

    Colloquium Committee (COL)
The Colloquium Committee arranges for internal or external speakers in the Departmental Colloquium slot (and negotiates the time of that slot, as required). The Committee will oversee the expenditure of departmental funds for travel or honoraria for speakers when such funds exist and will coordinate colloquium schedules as possible with neighboring institutions (Duke, NCSU, NCAandT, UNC-G, etc). The committee also seeks funding for special colloquium series.

    Department Facilities Committee (DFC)
The committee will advise the Chairman, Associate Chairmen, Director of Computer Services, and Faculty on policy matters involving all aspects of the department's facilities, including the computer and communication plant. Matters under this committee's purview include access to the building and access to computers, logical and physical security, major equipment acquisitions, major software acquisitions, and planning of computing and communications facilities and support personnel for the department's facilities. Note: this committee must avoid becoming involved in micromanagement of Computer Services.

The goal of this Committee is to suggest ways to improve the security, comfort, and effectiveness of the working environment in the department by proposing policy and procedure modifications that will more smoothly support the work that needs to be done by students, faculty, and staff. Since the matters of this committee's concern affect students, faculty, and staff, this committee will have representation from all those groups.

Three graduate students are appointed to this committee.
