Now that we have built all of the skills to produce a well-structured web site, you are to build your home page web site. The topic is clearly one that you know well. The basic requirements are that the site be easily navigable, attractive, engaging, and structured using the best practices that you have learned. There must be at least 3 pages. Beyond that, there are no specific requirements. The key point of this assignment is to reinforce all of the skills that you have learned and to build a complete site that is of general benefit to you.
The site may include any appropriate information: pictures, family, pets, education, hobbies, favorite pastimes or teams. It may be serious or humorous, but do remember that it will easily be found by anyone looking for information about you. If you are concerned about privacy or worried about how you are presented on the web, this is your opportunity to control that image.
If you want to post a document such as a resume, post it as a pdf; this allows it to be opened within the browser. You may also post it as an embedded object.
You are to post your web page on the UNC web space in the top level of the public_html folder and the first (home) page of your site is to be named index.html and the css is to be named home.css. Thus the site will be accessed as http://www.unc.edu/~onyen.
Because there are some people who are uncomfortable with building a home page, the alternative is to build a web site about a person with a connection to Chapel Hill. There are a lot of people associated with this city related to literature, art, music, sports, business, journalism, law, and politics. They may be associated with the town or the university. If you choose this option, you are to use the folder name Assign6 and the first page must still be index.html in that folder. You are also to put a link to Assign6/index.html on what would otherwise be your home page. The page need not be formatted, but should indicate that this is the alternative assignment. This eliminates the need for you to inform us about the name of the web site and is less confusing for someone who might come across your home page. Even for the alternative assignment, the css page is still to be named home.css.
We will be grading on ALL aspects of the web site. Specific grading criteria:
