There are 12 assignments planned in the course. There will be 6 web assignments, 4 spreadsheet/web assignments and 3 javascript/web assignments. The spreadsheet assignments will be accompanied by a simple web site where you will post the results of your spreadsheet work. If there are fewer assignments given, the percentages will remain the same and each assignment will be worth a higher percentage. (This may happen because of cancelled classes or slower than expected progress.) Assignments will generally be due at the end of class on Thursday but specific due dates are posted on the calendar.
All web assignments and quizzes will be turned in by posting on the UNC web site under your onyen with the name that is given in the assignment. (We will go over this the first week of classes.) I will be checking these assignments at the due time. If it is not properly posted, it is late. Grades and comments will be returned through Sakai.
All non-web assignments and labs are to be turned in electronically, using Sakai. Sakai identifies assignments that are turned in late and I will use its definition of late.
You have 3 late "days" that you may use on any assignment or lab. A late day is defined as the next class. You may use no more than 1 free late for an assignment. If you are out of late days, the assignment may be turned in before the next class with a maximum value of 50%. Assignments will not be accepted after that. Late days that are not used will be added as points to your grade. These points will be added directly to your score, after it has been converted to a percentage. In case of illness, accident, and family emergencies that are discussed with me in a timely fashion, late days need not be used.
There are expected to be 28 labs that will be given during the semester. Lab sessions will be the last 25 minutes of class. While the intent is to be able to finish in that time, you will not always be able to complete them in that time. In case this is insufficient time, you will have until 10 pm that day to turn in the quiz. Labs comprise 25% of your grade.
Unless otherwise stated, each of the lab is based on 10 points and each assignment is based on 20 points; only integer values will be used. The assignments in total are worth 50% of your grade each. Each assignment is worth 3-5%. Because there is a start up learning curve, earlier assignments will be counted less. Exact percentages will be posted with assignments. The project and final exam will also be based on 20 points and each are worth 15% and 10% of your grade respectively.
