Graduate Students: Academic Year
All graduate student assistantships (research assistant or teaching
assistant) offer the same level of compensation for the
nine-month academic year. Students work approximately
20 hours per week on their assigned assistantship. A bonus
of $750/semester is paid to students for a maximum of
four (4) semesters starting in the first semester after they have
obtained ABD (all-but-dissertation) status. Current and future
nine-month rates follow:

Graduate Students: Summer
Students also work on research projects during the summer. They
work 40 hours per week for a maximum of 12 weeks. Current and
future weekly rates follow:

Graduate Students: Fellowship Supplement
Students with a fellowship may choose to affiliate with a research
project for 10 hours per week. They receive a supplement (paid
by the research project) of $1,500 per semester when they affiliate.
Undergraduate Students: Academic Year
Undergraduate students may work as either laboratory assistants
or as research assistants. Laboratory assistants are assigned to specific
courses and work under the direction of the course instructor. Research
assistants work on specific research projects and work under the direction
of the project's principal investigator. Undergraduate students work
approximately 12-15 hours per week for approximately 15 weeks per semester.
Their compensation is $2,000 per semester.
Undergraduate Students: Summer
Undergraduates may work as research assistants for specific
research projects during the summer. They may work up to 40 hours per
week for up to 12 weeks per summer. Their salary is $12.00 per hour.
Specific work schedules are negotiated with the principal investigator.
Inflation
When budgeting for multi-year projects, the department's
policy is to use a 4% annual inflation rate for all budget
categories where the rate has not been established.
