Why we need a loading dock
Sometimes, we get in equipment in that comes in big boxes, like these
sun cabinets which make up a rather expensive supercomputer:
These get delivered in large very heavy crates. Without a loading dock,
trucks have to try to get close to the building, but on the uneven
brick, the trucks cannot get level. (Larger trucks cannot even come
into the parking lot, and are forced to unload from Columbia St., which
is on an even steeper angle). Here's about as good as it can get:
The angle doesn't look like much. But it's in two planes, and it's
enough that large heavy crates are hard to handle, even with a braking
pallet jack and 4 guys working together. These guys are pros, and they
almost lost one of the crates when the pallet jack slipped due to the
angle and weight of the load.
