The Handheld Calculator


Sharp ELSI-811 Electronic Calculator and AC Adapter (1972).  This was one of the first electronic calculators on the US market to take advantage of microprocessor technology.  Calculators of this era set the tone for the rapid improvements in computer technology.  This calculator has only four functions ( +, -, *, / ), but the first scientific calculator was created in the same year by Hewlett-Packard.
