The Pixel-Planes 2 Prototype

 (1982)
The Pixel-Planes project is another example of how computers are still changing today.  Researchers at UNC developed this computer system to help them render computer graphics faster.  The Pixel-Planes machines make computations for every pixel on the computer screen individually, so that the group as a whole can be manipulated at very high speeds.  This research is ongoing at UNC and several generations of Pixel-Planes computers have been built here.  For more in-depth information, see the website for the Pixel-Planes Group (click here)
