Scholastic Page

The Scholastic Page is designed with educators in mind. We hope you'll find resources and strategies for incorporating virtual reality and related topics into the classroom.  Young people are sometimes resistant to or turned off by math and science classes, but they get very excited about virtual reality. Virtual reality is an excellent tool to use to get kids' attention and raise their interest in mathematical and scientific questions and problems.  It can also be a vehicle for scholastic endeavors other than math and science. We have a few examples listed here as well.

If you're planning on bringing your class to our Introduction to Virtual Reality demonstration, we've designed the following resources as pre-visit exercises for you to use in the class:

The Treasure Hunt is a follow-up exercise to the Introduction to Virtual Reality and the Interactive Computer Museum. Students can do this activity in the classroom with internet access or when they come to UNC-CH.  If you'd like answers to the Treasure Hunt, send us mail at rsac@cs.unc.edu.

We also have a homework assignment that you can give to your students so that they may know a little more about virtual reality before coming to one of our demonstrations.  There is a VR Terms page which the assignment utilizes, that has descriptions of the words and phrases we use in our description of virtual reality.

We've also had one instructor use our resources for her English composition class's scientific writing assignment. We hope that others will use these resources for a variety of interdisciplinary studies.
