Nick England
Nick England is an adjunct research professor in the Department of Computer
Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received
degrees in Electrical Engineering in 1969 and 1974 from North Carolina State
University. He has spent 25 years in the computer graphics and imaging field
and worked 15 years in industry prior to joining the computer science
faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill full-time from 1993 to 1999. He founded two
successful graphics and imaging hardware companies, Ikonas Graphics and
Trancept Systems. After Trancept was acquired by Sun Microsystems, he
directed a visualization and imaging product development group for Sun. At
UNC-Chapel Hill, he co-designed a 26 gigabit/sec packet router chip for the
PixelFlow graphics system and worked on an architecture for an image-based
rendering accelerator. His research interests are in graphics and imaging
hardware, image-based rendering, and advanced image display systems. He is
currently CEO of 3rdTech Inc., a new firm founded to help commercialize
technology developed at UNC-Chapel Hill.
