  Lists: New Appointments, Promotions, and Title Changes in Departmental Newsletter

Statement of Practice

  1. The Publications staff will follow prescribed guidelines in order to ensure consistency in how new appointments, introductions for visiting faculty, title changes, promotions, and tenure are announced/organized in the departmental newsletter.
New Regular Faculty
Who: New to department, with a department appointment.
Where: List in the Welcome section, under "New Appointments" (include research interests--short).

New Visiting Faculty
Who: New to our department, and title contains "visiting."
Where:

If s/he has an official department appointment, then list in the Welcome section, under "Visiting Faculty" (include research interests--short).

If s/he does not have an official department appointment:

And if here for a long visit (e.g., a couple months, a semester, a year), then list in the "Welcome section," under "Visiting Faculty" (include research interests--short).

And if here for a brief visit (e.g., a day, a week), then list under "Some of our Special Visitors" (a few sentences).

Note: For those who are not new to our department, list under "Change in Appointments."

New staff
Where: List in the Welcome section, under "New staff members."

Recent Title Changes
Who: Moved from staff to faculty status; from student to faculty status; from adjunct associate professor to research associate professor; from visiting assistant professor to research assistant professor.

Include only those with official appointment in our department. May include titles with "Visiting" (include prose form of research interests--short).

Example: has a new title that does not necessarily confer promotion; or that would be inappropriate under the Congratulations section.

Where: List in the Welcome section.

Promotions (faculty or staff)
Where: List in "Congratulations" section.

Examples: staff promotions; faculty promoted from assistant to associate professor; from associate to full professor; when tenure is conferred. Faculty promotions are also mentioned in the Chairman's message.
