Department Brochure
The Department of Computer Science publishes a general brochure annually in the summer. Its purpose is to provide an overview of the department to prospective students, collaborating researchers, visitors, and other interested readers. Information in the brochure includes: (1) general information about the department, the university and the surrounding area, (2) overviews of the major research areas, (3) information on facilities, labs, research sponsors, recent graduates, and so on, and (4) pointers to web pages containing information about admissions, courses, and other subjects of interest. It is distributed to interested readers upon request. Information in the brochure is compiled from a number of departmental web pages; thus a complete copy of this publication is not available on the web.

Graduate Admissions Brochure
The Department of Computer Science publishes a graduate admissions brochure annually in the spring. Its purpose is to provide prospective students with the information they need to know about the department before they apply to the graduate program. Information in the brochure includes: (1) requirements of the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and how to apply to the graduate program, and (2) overviews of the department, faculty, research areas, and facilities, labs, and courses. It is mailed out to prospective graduate students upon request, and is also distributed in the autumn--along with the Graduate Admissions Poster and Department Brochure--in a mass mailing to other computer science and mathematics departments.

Graduate Admissions Poster
The Department of Computer Science publishes a graduate admissions poster annually in the summer. Its purpose is to interest prospective students in coming to study at the department. The poster includes a list of the department's faculty, major research areas, and reasons for joining the department. It also includes a business card with the department's contact information and a list of web pages to visit for more information. Each year, the poster features one or more current research projects with photographs and accompanying explanations. It is mailed out in the autumn--along with the Graduate Admissions Brochure and Department Brochure--in a mass mailing to other computer science and mathematics departments.

News & Notes
The Department of Computer Science publishes a newsletter, News & Notes, twice a year in the fall, and spring. Its purpose is to inform readers about: (1) current and recent department activities, including updates on research project activities; new contracts and grants; recent and upcoming publications; and new faculty, staff, and students, (2) activities of alumni, former faculty, and former staff, (3) announcements of upcoming events, and (4) any other items deemed to be of interest to readers. News & Notes is distributed to current and former faculty, staff, and students; donors; collaborating researchers; UNC administrators; and others interested in the department's activities.

Research Project Summaries
The Department of Computer Science produces a set of one-page (double-sided) handouts annually, with more frequent updates for some handouts as needed. Each handout describes a current research project and provides a brief overview of the problem under study, the approach being taken to solve that problem, the project investigators, research sponsors/funding agencies, selected publications, key words, and contact information. Handouts are distributed to collaborating researchers and interested visitors, and are also downloadable from the web.

Department Calendar and What's Happening
The Department of Computer Science maintains a web-viewable Department Calendar which lists upcoming departmental events including colloquia, dissertation defenses and masters thesis presentations, committee meetings, some research meetings, social events, and visitors. It also lists important dates in the university's academic calendar and holiday schedules. There is a separate linked file which contains faculty and staff travel and which is only accessible by people who have an e-mail account with the department. The publications staff prepares a printed version of the calendar called What's Happening at the end of each week, which contains information for the following week.
