This is the operation manual for the HP Model 4195A Network/Spectrum Analyzer. This manual contains seven sections plus appendices, organized for the convenience of the first time user. After you receive your HP 4195A, begin with Section 1. If you are a first time user of an already installed HP 4195A, begin with section 2. The performance test and adjustment procedures are described in the HP 4195A's maintenance manual.

Transmission/Reflection Test Sets
The HP 41952A and HP 41952B Transmission/Reflection Test Sets are used with the HP 4195A to perform both transmission and reflection measurements. The HP 41952A is used for 50 ohm applications and the HP 41952B is used for 75 ohm applications. Using two HP 41952A or HP 41952B test sets, full S-parameter measurements can be performed.

Accurate and repeatable inductance and Q measurements of chip inductors may be made with a Hewlett Packard 4195A impedance analyzer and the coilcraft SMD-A test fixture. Care must be taken to use the proper procedure and that the instrument is set at an optimum frequency for the most accurate test.

Accurate and repeatable measurements of axial leaded components can be made with the HP 4195A and the Coilcraft AXL-A test fixture. The combination of the HP 4195A and the AXL-A fixture allow fast, precise and nondestructive electrical tests of passive components. The procedure outlined in the manual will assure optimum measurement performance in accordance with the HP 4195A published accuracy curves (please refer to the HP 4195A operations manual).

The HP 85032B 50 ohm type-N calibration kit, contains precision standard devices designed to characterize the systematic errors of type-N measurement systems. The storage case is supplied to protect calibration devices from damage that will degrade the performance accuracy. Replace devices in the case immediately after use.
