    Basic instructions for the department's Meridian Mail voice mail

    Accessing mailbox from your own phone

    Dial access number 1600, or press message key.  Press #. Enter password and press #.  Note: After 4 incorrect login attempts, the mailbox is locked.

    Accessing mailbox from another phone

    Dial access number 1600.  Enter mailbox number and press #.  Enter password and press #.

    Accessing mailbox from a phone outside the department

    This can be done three different ways:

    1. Dial 919-843-7400. Enter mailbox number and press #.  Enter password and press #.
    2. Dial 919-962-1700. Dial extension 1600. Enter mailbox number and press #.  Enter password and press #.
    3. Dial your own phone number, when voice mail greeting answers, press 81.  Enter mailbox number and press #.  Enter password and press #.

    Recording personal greeting

    Access Mailbox. Press 82 to record greeting.  Press 1 for external greeting or 2 for internal greeting.  Press 5 to record.  Hear tone.  Press # to end recording.

    Changing password

    Access Mailbox. Press 84 to change password. Enter new password and press #.  Enter new password again and press #.  Enter old password and press #.  You can only change your password once in a 24 hour period.

    Recording your name (personal verification)

    Access Mailbox.  Press 89 to record personal verification.  Press 5 to record.  Hear tone, Speak your first and last name.  Press # to end recording.

    Playing mMessages

    Access Mailbox.  Listen to mailbox summary.  Listen to the first message envelope.  Listen to new messages.  Press 2 to replay the message.  Press 6 to go to the next message.  Press 76 to delete the message.  Press 71 to reply to a message.  Press 73 to forward a message.  Press 79 to call the sender.

    Composing messages

    Access Mailbox.  Press 75 to compose a message.  Enter one or more mailbox numbers separated by #.  Press # again to end the list.  Press 5 to record message.  Hear tone.  Press # to end recording.  Press 70 for message options.  (See below for message options).  Press 79 to send.

    Message Options:  Press 1 for urgent.  Press 4 for private.  Press 5 for acknowledge.  Press 6 for time delivery.

    Distribution lists (1 thru 9)

    Access Mailbox.  Press 85.  Enter distribution list number 1 thru 9 and press #.  Press 5 to create list. Enter mailbox number and press #.  Repeat for each mailbox in the list.  Press # end the list.

    Accessing express messaging

    Dial access number 1601.  Enter mailbox number and press #.  Hear tone.  Leave message and hang up or press # for more options.

    Accessing express messaging outside the department

    Dial 919-962-1700. Dial extension 1601.  Enter mailbox number and press #.  Hear tone.  Leave message and hang up or press # for more options.

    Recovering deleted voice mail messages

    Voice mail messages are not backed up.  Due to limitations of the legacy voice mail system, we are unable to recover any deleted messages.
