Information on available antivirus software for Windows machines

Reviewed by Alan Forrest on 3/1/11

All department and university owned machines should have antivirus software installed as part of the standard software load.  The current product offered by the campus is Symantec Endpoint Protection, SEP, version 11.  Computer Services includes SEP as part of our standard image, and we also make it available to the departmental community for use on personally owned machines under the campus-wide site license.  Both x86 and x64 versions are available for download and installation from within the department and also through the campus shareware pages.

If you are in Sitterson, you may browse to:  \\compsvc-cs\Public Software distribution\Symantec Endpoint Protection to download the latest versions.

The UNC Shareware site also has SEP available for download here.  (Please note that this download requires a valid Onyen user name and password.)

We strongly recommend that you install antivirus protection on your personal machines, especially those connected to the campus network.  We require that antivirus protection be installed on all department owned machines.
