Deformable Knee Atlas with Probabilistic Weight Bearing Cartilage Regions

Abstract
We will develop a method for atlas-driven segmentation and assessment of knee cartilage consisting of a probabilistic shape model, a multi-label segmentation strategy, and a method for atlas-building in the knee joint. This work will be an important step towards comprehensive automatic analysis of MR images of the knee. Methods developed will be applicable to image data acquired by the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI). The proposed research will significantly contribute to enhance the robustness of computational analysis tools available for osteoarthritis research.
