    Video Based Acquisition, Representations and Rendering of Large Real and Synthetic Environments

    Abstract
    We propose to investigate video-based representations for management and interactive display of complex real-world and synthetic datasets. Our goal is to develop efficient representations and rendering acceleration algorithms based on video encoding and decoding algorithms.

    We will use spatial partitioning techniques to decompose synthetic models into virtual cells and generate- video-based impostors. For real-world environments, we will acquire them using multiple digital cameras. Our goals include developing spatially encoded video representations as well efficient algorithms for decoding and manipulation at run time. They will be combined with database management techniques to display very large models at interactive rates on current graphics systems and mobile platforms.
