AFS Information

Currently all RedHat Linux machines and all Windows XP and Vista machines in the department have AFS client software installed on them. This allows these systems to access any files in the "/afs/..." directory space, assuming the user has the proper access.

Below are some links to "howto" articles that discuss AFS. These articles were originally written for AFS on UNIX systems, but much of the howto information applies to both Windows and UNIX. On Windows systems, you can access online help documents located under the Start menu on you task bar: "Start -> Programs -> OpenAFS -> Open AFS Help." The online help is an excellent introduction on how to use the AFS file system. The UNIX AFS User's Guide is also a good introduction to using AFS.

There are also links below to the OpenAFS www site that contain more excellent documents. IBM is phasing out AFS software and support. The AFS filesystme is now available as open asource, See the OpenAFS site for more info.
