About Me

I am a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) in the Department of Genetics. I work in the pmdvlab led by Dr. Fernando Pardo Manuel de Villena. Prio to that, I obtained my PhD in Computer Science from UNC-CH under the supervision of Dr. Leonard McMillan.

Research

My research interest includes Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and Applied Machine Learning. To be specific, I am interested in understanding the repeated segments of genomes resulted from the insertions of Transposable Elements (TEs). I am currently working on two projects: [drafts are in progress]

  • The ERV Landscape in the Collaborative Cross: High and strain specific de novo ERV Mutations Lead to Emergence of Phenotypic Outliers
  • Active leukemia-like virus RLTR4 in CC population

In addition, I often create interactive visualization tools for effectively depicting my findings. During my PhD, I also developed several algorithms, one of which, was the key algorithm for identifying and characterizing these TE insertions.
