Midterm I Information (Wednesday 3pm-4pm, Gardner Hall #209, Sep 27’06)

Midterm I will count 15% towards your final grade. The exam would be marked out of 100 and would be of 1 hr duration during class time. The exam is open notes and books. You would need to write down your answers and programs on paper and no laptops are allowed during exams.

Topics for Midterm I

The questions will be strictly from what has been covered in class. So if you have taken notes in class that should be sufficient material for you to prepare for the exam. The following material from book is relevant. Before reading, check if the topic was covered in lecture.

Two Dimensional arrays are excluded for Midterm I.

The chapters are from the course textbook Java Programming: From Problem Analysis to Program Design, 2nd Edition.

  • Chapter 1 – Overview of Computers and Programming Languages
  • Chapter 2 – Basic Elements of Java, Page 27-46 (Casting) and Page 77  till 97.

  • Chapter 5 – Control Structures II
  • Chapter 7 – User Defined Methods, Page 359 – 367.
  • Chapter 9 - Arrays, Pages 529-533. Array of String Objects (Page 553)

A large part of class material has been borrowed from Andrew Leaver-Fay (http://www.cs.unc.edu/~plato), and Swaha Miller (http://www.cs.unc.edu/~swaha), previous instructors of Comp110 (previously called COMP 014).
