Ronald Azuma and Mark Ward At SIGGRAPH '91, UNC Chapel Hill demonstrated an electro-optical tracking system for Head-Mounted Displays that can track a user inside a room-sized volume. The mathematics that the system uses to compute the position and orientation of the user's head is based on a photogrammetric technique called space resection by collinearity. This paper gives a detailed description of this technique and its behavior in our working system.
