Once again, it's been ages since I did anything with this page. So here are my pictures on flickr.

Cutest babies ever!!!!

Here is

Dave's web log!

I figured, since we're having babies, I'd document the process, not that anyone else would be interested.
Well, it's been a while since I updated this web page (2 years?), so I thought I should do something. Here's my pride and joy:

It's a Bottlehead Foreplay pre-amp. It's a kit that uses two 12AU7 tubes. Built it myself, and it sounds great. My next project will be a pair of DIY Horn speakers. One of these days I might build their Parabee mono-block power amps. 8 watts of pure single ended triode power.

Here's my entire audio/video system:

Need a little bed time reading? Check this out. Chicks dig it.
Here's my web page at work (sorry, but our web server is down. we'll get it up one of these days).

A lot has happened recently. We've moved to Bethesda, Maryland. Lynne will be a fellow at NIH and I'll be working at the National Library of Medicine. We've got a new house (I'll post pictures later). We've got DSL. Here's an initial web page on our iMac at home.

Chen Wins! Chen Shui-bian of the Democratic Progressive Party was elected president of Taiwan! My folks were back there campaigning for him.
I just got back from the annual Chen Family Christmas vacation. This year we went to the Greek Isles. Here are the copious pictures I took with my digital camera.

Here are a couple cool news things: Ladka's company to do "What Dreams May Come"-like effects, and Tector's upcoming game Galleon.

My parents and I went white water rafting down the Salmon river in Idaho. It was awesome.

Here are some picture from Siggraph 99 in LA.

I've improved my cd web page and added a dvd page.

I'm so excited! My brother has put up a web server for chen.net. Here's my page over there.
It's official. I'm hitched. Here's a web page about it, and here are some pictures from our digital camera.
Well kids, the big news is that Lynne and I are getting hitched. April 10th 1999, 4 pm, Newport Presbyterian in Bellevue, WA. Be there or be square, baby!
Hey Kids! Guess what? There's a "David Chen Restaurant".
Woo woo!!! It's official. I'm a Doctor of Philosophy. I got the piece of paper and the funny outfit.

Go ahead. Ask me about Nietzsche.

Just got back from lovely Milpitas, CA. Sorry, ladies, but Huboo is officially off the market (unless they have some sort of open marriage). Hub's friend Alex has made a nice web page about the wedding.
Well, I've made it to Houston. After a mad dash from Chapel Hill, I arrived last Sunday and started work Monday at the University of Houston in the Virtual Environment Technology Lab. Here's my VETL web page.
Lynne has been working like crazy in her residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Boy am I glad I didn't do the standard Taiwanese thing of becoming a doctor.
I'd just like to say that "ECONO LUBE SUCKS!". Lynne took her car there to get the oil changed. In the process they forgot to replace a gasket. Five miles down the road the engine dies, bereft of oil. It needs a brand new engine.
I was goofing with the video camera on the Indy in the graphics lab, and I made a stereo pair of images of myself. You can fuse them by crossing your eyes.

Dave. Graduating. Yeah right. To prove it, I've made a web page about my dissertation. Ok, that was a joke. Here's the real thing: an html version of my dissertation.

Well, I'm starting to get more serious about life. I'm getting close to graduation (who would've believed it), I've gotten engaged, I've started to consider Minoxidil or hair implants. Ok, maybe not the last one. Anyways, I have started thinking about finding a job. Therefore, I've made a HTML version of my resume. Check it out. Judge me.

This letter to the editors of the Daily Tar Heel is my greatest accomplishment as a graduate student at Carolina. It's in response to a previous letter.
Are you ready for the future? Find out what lays ahead in The Year 2000!!!
I'm jazzed! I shot a 43 playing 9 holes at Twin Lakes. Here's a picture of me teeing off, driving the ball 350 yards. If anybody out there can get me on the Governer's Club or Chapel Hill Country Club courses, I'd be so grateful.

It's new picture time. Mmmmm, Claire Danes.

I'm just goofing with a web document. Another off-ramp of the Information Super-Highway (tm). Another waste of precious Internet bandwidth.

Stuff I've Done

Here's my Tar Heel Web Page. Go Tar Heels! Tell me what you think.

I used to work on the Ultrasound Project with my buddy, Andrei. Ah the memories.

Stuff I've Seen

Sports

For all you sports junkies out there, the coolest thing I've seen is the ESPN. They've got stats and information for all the major sports, including college basketball and football. The San Francisco Chronicle/Examiner has a site called The Gate. Read the Chronicle. I always hated the Examiner because William Randolph Hearst the 2nd's columns used to piss me off. The Daily Tar Heel is now on-line too. Now you can get Woody Durham's broadcasts of Carolina football and basketball on the Internet.

When it comes to playing sports, I used to live for volleyball. Here are some v-ball links: Carolina Volleyball, Volleyball Worldwide and Div. I College Volleyball Update.

Recently I've taken up the game of golf. In fact it consumes my every waking moment. Here are the place's I've played: Finley (UNC's course and my home course), The Pit near Pinehurst (man was that a tough course. we got our butts kicked.), The Legends (Parkland and Heathland courses) and Wild Wing (Avocet course), both at Myrtle Beach. This Christmas we went to Kauai, where I had the chance to play two great courses Princeville (the Prince course) and Poipu Bay (site of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf). Here are some good web sites: GolfWeb, Thor's Golf Links, and Tiger Watch.

People

Here are some pages of some friends and relatives: Hubert Chen (my brother), Ed Chen (my cousin), Ed and Hannah Hong (more cousins) [Hannah is loopy about 'N Sync. Don't ask me.], Dave Banks (former UNC Graphics Geek), Andrew and Ruth Andersaur (former UNC undergrads). Here's Andy, Squishy and Gillam. Crad-man, your wish is my command. Cindy has some cool pictures on her page.

Andrei used to be in the Luftwaffe. He dived bombed the Communists in Spain in his Stuka.

Ya know, I've got a lot of other friends with web pages, but through the miracle of firewalls, nobody's ever going to see them.

Music

If you're into the Chapel Hill music scene, here are some things that might interest you. WXYC Chapel Hill is now on the infobahn, and they now broadcast over the internet. Check out the web page for information and software on how to receive their signal. The other college radio station around here is WXDU, Duke's station. Here is Wifflefist, which is sort of a record label (and sort of not).

Some of my favorite musicians and bands are: Seam, Superchunk, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Gumption, The Beatles, Suzanne Vega and Velocity Girl. Here's an excerpt from Superchunk's video.

News and Information

The stuff out on the web I use the most are news and information sites. Here are the main ones I like. CNN Interactive is and up-to-the-minute news site. USA Today is McPaper's home page. The Wall Street Journal's Page was cool, but now it requires money, and as anyone on the Internet can tell you, paying for things is uncool. The New York Times is all the news that'll fit in my pants. You have to register there, but it's worth it. For a good time, read Dave Barry.

Schools

For any Cal alums out there the Cal Atheletics page got all sorts of up-to-date on Cal Bears sports. Here's the CAL Berkeley home page, and the CS Dept. The Daily Cal is on-line now too. If you want info on the University of North Carolina or our little home of CS geeks here in Blue Heaven, click it, baby. Here's the current weather in Chapel Hill.

I just found my high school's web page, so here it is: Charles Wright Academy.

Seattle

Here are some geographic web pages. There are two about my home town, Seattle. One's Emerald City directory, a listing of every conceivable web page in Seattle, and other is the Seattle Web Server at U Dub. To find out what's happening in Seattle check out Seattle Hometown News. Seattle's baseball team has a Mariners page. Here's the current weather.

You probably already knew this, but these days on the web you can find several cool map servers. You can type in an address anywhere and get a map to it. Here's a map of my place and my parent's house.

The Wild and the Wacky

Not satisfied with the quantity or quality of your bull's semen? Then check out the Dummy Cow! Interested in a little backyard barbecue? Learn all about the joys of Olestra. Here's a web page that translates any other web page into Jive or Pig Latin or whatever. I've been living in the South for 10 years now, so here's a web site near and dear to my heart: Great Mobile Homes of Mississippi.

Misc

The Internet Movie Database let's you query its database about any movie every made by anybody. It's way cool.

And finally, let me just say that I'm navigating the Information Super-Highway (tm), and I'm not wearing any pants. This is the wrong exit of the ISH.
