Bonds of Crystal
Trapped in the lattice,
Frozen forever in Time,
I try to leave the confinement
of my crystal cell,
to move about freely
as is my nature;
But to no avail –
I cannot break away.
I am the atom
bound by this tyranny,
always in the state
of lowest energy.
Held in a tight embrace
by the vice-like grip of Gravity,
In an uneasy equilibrium
with the awesome pull of my planet,
I take ever-decreasing circles…
There’s so much free space out there
I could have soared through the galaxy
till the end of Time.
But here I am, the captured satellite
in orbit around a superior mass,
destined to crash into it, someday…
Forever in limbo,
No place to go,
Trapped by my conscience;
A ghostly manifestation,
to haunt the world of the living
is my fate…
I am the soul of the man
who could not fulfil his promises,
whose life was not worth the living;
Condemned forever,
to remain in suspended animation.
On a quest
to find out more about life,
My inquisitive mind shackled
by false hopes and desires
of worldly accomplishment,
I go up an endless staircase
but I am always at the bottom.
I am the poet, trying to unravel
the mysteries of this world;
I have yet to learn
the essence of this universe;
Namely – the key to Life is Death.
