Field study: Blind and sighted participants needed to evaluate
technology making diagrams accessible to the blind in a classroom
Time requirement:
1-hour weekly meeting during a 15-week semester
Dates of Experiment:
January-December 2008
Location:
Participate through the internet from the convenience of your computer.
OR
Participate in person in Sitterson Hall, UNC Chapel Hill North Carolina
Description of Study:
- We are investigating the Deep
View software to make diagrams accessible to blind persons.
Specifically the software provides access to node-link diagrams, such
as flow chart, trees, and UML (diagrams for software engineers). No
specific knowledge about node-link diagrams required.
- Participants will use our software to complete course assignments
related to diagrams. Participants are in one of two situations
- A blind instructor participates with a sighted co-instructor
- A blind student participates with a sighted instructor
- Participants meet with the experimenter to discuss their progress.
Eligibility:
We encourage blind and sighted persons to participate. Also
- Participants must be at least 18 years old.
- Participants must use computer at least several times a week
- Participants must be proficient in spoken and written English.
