User Study Practice
Ask the experimenter to load the User Study diagram. With this
diagram you will practice using Deep View. After the practice you will
complete similar tasks on other diagrams.
This is
an example of a flow chart that shows a
procedure. The procedure is divided into tasks. Links indicate how
progress is
made from one task to another.
After reading about the diagram, the experimenter will work with you to
demonstrate how to use Deep View to navigate the diagram.
To get you started, here is an overview of the diagram is as follows:
- Main point: The diagram
shows the tasks a participant of the study completes.
- Node & link represents:
A node represents one task. The link indicates how a participant
advances from one task to another.
- Special feature: One part
of the process is different for sighted and blind participants.
Detailed description of diagram
This is a flow chart describing the tasks a participant completes in
the user study.
A participant starts the study and completes the informed consent.
Next
the tasks are different for a sighted and blind participant.
The
sighted participant completes the study using a visual drawing program,
Rational Rose.
A blind participant uses our custom audio diagram
interface, Deep View.
After using the interfaces, participants complete
the post questionnaire and end the study.
Practice navigation
The experimenter will review how to navigate the diagram.
Take some
time to navigate the diagram and become familiar
with the diagram.
When you are ready, the experimenter will ask you 3
questions about the diagram.
Practice editing
Deep View provides an extensive interface to edit diagrams. In the
study you will only need to add links between nodes.
To add a link, press Control + L. A dialog appears in which you enter
the information about the link.
The name is optional and would describe
the nature of the link.
For this diagram a link indicates how progress
is made from one node (or task) to another node (or task).
An example,
there is a link from the first task where a participant starts the
study to the second task where the participant completes the informed
consent.
Let us practice. The experimenter will delete the just mentioned link
and you can recreate it.
The link is between the task where a
participant starts the study and completes the informed consent.
Practice pointing
Next we will practice pointing at nodes in the diagram.
You will point
at nodes to answer questions asked by the experimenter.
To point at a node, select the node and press Control + P.
The
experimenter will see what you are pointing at.
To view what is pointed at, press Control + Shift + P.
This changes the
Deep View mode to show a list of items pointed by you and the
experimenter.
Press delete to return to regular mode of viewing the
complete diagram.
Let us practice. The experimenter will ask you two questions.
