Research
My research is in assistive technology; computer solutions for people with disabilities. My projects involve developing and evaluating computer applications for people with a variety of disabilities.

In my dissertation I investigate shared workspaces to support collaboration between people with and without disabilities. The Deep View system supports collaboration between a blind person and a sighted person. The Facetop system supports collaboration between a deaf person and a hearing person.

    Projects

Deep View: Accessible diagram interface for blind users. Also support synchronous collaboration with a sighted person. The sighted persons use a visual diagram application, such as Rational Rose or MS Visio.

Facetop: Video conferencing solution to support collaboration between a deaf person and a hearing person. The video conferencing enables the users to communicate through gestures.

Reading technology: I collaborate with UNC Disability Services and ASP to support students with learning disabilities (LD) and Attention deficit and hypertension disorder (ADHD). The LD/ADHD students are sighted, however, they have a weakness reading printed text. Listening to the text-to-speech circumvents the reading weakness and helps the students complete reading assignments.  Related projects:

JAWS: We designed custom equipment to assist people with mobility impairments complete training tasks. Related:
