About Me

Educational Background

I am currently a graduate student in the Computer Science Department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I graduated from Carleton College in 2008 with a BA in Computer Science and a BA in Mathematics. My primary academic interests are in medical image analysis and computer vision.

Personal Background

I grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts with my family. My parents are Bill and Vickie, and my two brothers are Tim (older) and Matt (younger). After graduation, I spent four years in Northfield, Minnesota attending Carleton College. My sophomore year, I was lucky enough to meet my wonderful girlfriend, Rebekkah Goodman-Williams, who now lives with me in Carrboro and works at Elon University.

Extracurricular Interests

Aside from spending way too much time in front of my computer, like any good computer scientist should, I like to get outdoors and move around when possible. One of my favorite non-digital activities is playing Ultiamte Frisbee. I started playing Ultimate as a freshman in high school, and have played actively ever since. I played on the Carleton Ultimate Team (CUT) for four years, and am currently playing for the local club team LOS. I also enjoy mountain biking when I get the chance and am very excited to have good trails nearby (Minnesota is pretty flat, especially without easy access to a car). In between practice and riding, I also like to take a lot of pictures. I'm not much good at people shots (people move too fast), but I really like trying to capture pieces of nature (they're much more cooperative about staying still).
