Mom mentioned that she was born in Seattle, grew up in Powell WY. Fred (her dad) homesteaded in Montana. Emma is from Minnesota, but was born in Denmark.
Harv is one of mom's brothers. His daughter Sandy is Mrs. Bob Olsen, Sandy's daughter Chris is 25 in 1998. Jo Ann's daughter Cheri has a daughter Cathy who is 23 in 1998.
From Rick (mom's brother Jack's son):
The Heiberg family lived in Big Sandy, Montana. Thats where
the wedding picture of Fred & Emma is located and it really is worth
seeing! The Heiberg family house was moved into town some years ago (by
the 'Miners' family) so it is also possible to visit it as well.
In fact, when we were there about three years ago, the current owner even
let us come in for a visit! It was really neat. Big Sandy is
located in North central Montana, north of Great Falls and south of cities
such as Harlem and Havre. Tim, my brother, lives in Lincoln City, Oregon
with his wife Lori and their twins Adam and Emily, age 14.
From Carol (my sister):
I had a great correspondence with our cousin Bobbie (daughter of
mom's brother Bob, Carol's age) and visited her a few times. She
lives (lived) in the mountains of Colorado and worked as a heavy equipment
operator. Unfortunately we lost touch - though she did give me some
good mexican recipies. Bob's wife is/was Mexican/Spanish. When
Mark and I drove up to AK in '85 we spent a few days w/ Harv & Doris
(Harv is yet another of mom's brothers!) in Bow WA. What a great
place they have! Harv is a kick & a half. We still write
- he's so down to earth and you're instantly drawn into his head and life.
He welded a grill together for the front of our truck so the rocks on the
Al-Can hwy didn't put out the headlights. A very good idea, that.
And he most always ends his sentences in letters this way. Ha!
Harv is very proud of the fact that they are pretty much self-sufficient
at their home. I like that.
Rick Heiberg (52 in 1998) and wife Wendy live in Woodenville Washington, (just north of Seattle). He may be a scant few years from early retirement from Boeing, and has been fortunate enough to travel in his job to cool places in last half a decade, such as Greece and Saudi Arabia. After 'retirement' he hopes to consult as a training expert for some of Beoing's customers, and travel hopefully back to Greece! His work number is 425-234-1446. Rick is starting to catalog the many photos he has, some inherited from his Dad (our uncle) Jack, who died around 1988. Rick's Mom died in 1997. Rick is very interested in staying close to his relatives, maybe taking a cross-country trip (next year?) and visiting many cousins etc, writing down Heiberg family history... his kids in '98: Rick, age 7 (like me, he's made a stand -- don't call me Ricky anymore!), Casey (15.5), Brandon (19, recently joined the Marines, will be in Texas), John (22, engaged, was in Navy, landscaping now, wants to build a house on some land he's looking at), Cindy (26, married with a son), Mike (30, married with 2 boys). I met all but the latter two, both of whom still live nearby.
Rick gave me a copy of a letter written by Mom's Mom Emma Edith Larsen right before she went in to surgery, a surgery she died not long after at age 46. The letter seems to indicate Emma knew she likely wouldn't survive the surgery. She says goodbye to her kids, and husband Fred (who died at age 54), and uses nicknames for her kids like Joey (Jo Annie), Neddy, Jeannie, Jacob (Jack), Hoffie (Harv), some I'm not sure of (Audie - Eva?), Bobby, Jim, Doris...? she says goodbye to her only brother George. It's quite a letter, chock full of good advice and love.
Fred and Emma lived in Nebraska, moved to Montana. Rick visited the Montana town, in the train station (?) there are portraits of some town founding fathers -- one is a wedding shot of Fred and Emma, and it's pretty big. Worth seeing someday!
Harv/Doris (both 81 in 1998) are in Bow WA, Harv creates the metal
sculptures (Mom has an owl). Rick describes Harv as someone who
can really spin a yarn. Harv/Bob/Jack were
all in the military (two in army, one in navy?). Bob lives in East
Denver or east Colorado. Ned died in his mid-30's, he had a bad
industrial accident when he worked the oil fields earlier in his life,
he was tall (6'4"), slim, wore cowboy duds, drove Cadillac with
tooled leather dashboard...
Rick's brother Tim lives near Portland. Harv's son Randy who died
in a car wreck
last year, had owned a small boatyard in Alaska.
Rick gave us kids a ride in his Model A back in 1964 or so, he still has the car!
Mom's sister Jo Ann and hubby Bill have 5 kids: Cheri, Terry, Ron (Buffalo), Debbie, Linda.
Medical history: Diabetes - Dad, his bro Henry, Harvey.
