DIAGNOSTICS

You can run diagnostic software to determine if there is a hardware or software problem.

If you are having trouble with your audio, fax/modem, microphone, or telephone functions, click on MWAVE QUICK TEST to check out your Mwave adapter card. If errors are found, run the diagnostics program described below. Click on MWAVE HELP for more information about your Mwave card.

In addition to the Mwave tests, your Aptiva comes with a comprehensive diagnostic software program that will examine your system, and tell you of any problems it finds (along with possible causes).

The Easy Test Diagnostics program is simple to run. After starting it, you can let it run unattended. When it finishes, a log file will be displayed on the screen. You will be able to view the file online, print the file, or see it later from the IBM HelpWare Support page (number 5) in the Aptiva Helper.

    To run diagnostics:

    1. Close all open applications.
    2. Insert the Aptiva Diagnostics and Utilities CD in the CD-ROM drive.
    3. Either click on SHUT DOWN or do the following:
      1. Click on the Start button on the Windows 95 desktop, and select Shut Down.
      2. In the 'Shut Down Windows' window, do not change the selection from 'Shut down the computer?'. Select 'Yes'.
    4. After the computer turns off, wait 5 seconds, then turn on your Aptiva by pressing the power switch. After the computer restarts, a menu will be displayed.
    5. Select 'Run Easy Test Diagnostics' from the menu, and follow the directions.

The Advanced Diagnostics program provides more extensive testing. To start the program, select 'Run Advanced Diagnostics' from the same CD-ROM menu. This program also checks all aspects of your system, but requires you to interact with it.

You can choose a subset of the available test modules, if desired. Also, this program tests certain components more extensively (for instance, the keyboard, mouse, and monitor).
