Comp 110 – Intro to Programming

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Browser Upgrade

Be on the cutting edge

This course will use its web page (not Sakai) to disseminate information about assignments, readings, etc. Blackboard will be used for electronic submission of assignments (the digital drop box) and posting your grades.

The course web pages are written using the most recent version of the web page language (HTML 5). The web pages will work fine with many different browsers. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome have all been tested and Opera is expected to work correctly. However, you should be running a current version of your browser. Check your browser's web site for more information.

If you use Internet Explorer it is especially important to upgrade to IE 9 (IE 8 does not support HTML 5).

  • Go to Internet Explorer and click the download link in the navigation bar near the top of the page.
  • Click "Internet Explorer 9" near the middle left of the page.
  • This page will guide you through the installation. With a PC you will need to choose between 32 bit and 64 bit depending on the version of Windows you are running. To find out which you have, right click on the "Computer" desktop icon and select "Properties". In the fine print under "System-System Type" you will see either 32 or 64 bit OS."
