Student Responsibilities
What you gotta do
Attend every class. Attend every lab.
Backup your work on a flash drive or other external media. Save an electronic copy of every assignment you turn in and keep it until you have received your final letter grade for this course.
Collect each graded assignment when it is handed back.
- Check your grade on Blackboard. If a grade is missing or incorrect, promptly notify the TA in charge of grades (see Getting Help link).
- Save the graded assignment until you have received your final letter grade for this course.
Assignments
- Turn them in on time. In general, no late assignments are accepted. If there are exceptional circumstances that prohibit you from turning in an assignment on time, see the TA in charge of grades (not the instructor) as listed on the Contact Info link.
- An on-time assignment is given to the instructor at the start of class. If you turn in an assignment early, give it to the TA in charge of grades (as listed on the Contact Info link).
- Most assignments have two parts: a paper submission and an electronic submission.
- All assignment submissions should be neat and well organized.
- Turn in the requested material in the order specified.
- The pages of the assignment must be stapled together. Loose pages are easily misplaced.
- If you do not pick up the graded assignment at the class where it is handed back, you may get if from the TA in charge of grades (see Contact Info link).
The course web page lists the dates and times for the exams. Plan early for these.
Working Together and the UNC Honor Code
There will be a number of in-class assignments that will be done by teams of 3-4 students. You are encouraged to study together for the exams. The programming assignments and homework are individual assignments not to be performed by teams. Observe the UNC Honor Code at all times. Follow these guidelines:
- It is permissible to talk with other students about the assignment: What is required? What is handed in? When is it due? etc.
- It is permissible to talk with other students about how you will tackle an assignment: Are loops necessary? Should we have more than one method? etc.
- Do not email your code to other students.
- If you have not fully completed the assignment, do not
- Read the Java code (or homework solution) of another student.
- Help another student debug their code (you would see at least some of their code in Eclipse)
More information can be found at Honor Code Observation in Computer Science Courses.
