Genus Anoplolepis (Formicinae)

Santschi, 1914b: 123 (as subgenus of Plagiolepis)
. Type species: Formica longipes Jerdon, by monotypy. Anoplolepis raised to genus: Emery, 1925d: 16. The type species, Formica longipes Herdon, is a junior primary homonym in Formica. First available replacement name is Anoplolepis gracilipes Smith.

- ZOOGEOGRAPHICAL REGIONS. Palearctic, Afrotopical, Indo-Australian.

- RECOGNITION.
Antennal scape very long, over 1.5 times as long as head length (excluding mandibles). Dorsum of mesosoma usually without erect hairs. Node of petiole rounded dorsally; not scale-like. Body elongate. An Old World tramp not yet recorded from Nearctic region but to be looked for in southern CA, Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico.
