This file should still be readable by previous versions of legacy LAS software as long as they implement forward compatible LAS readers. The options '-set_point_type 6' to '-set_point_type 10' will in addition upconvert the point data format from type 1 to the new point types 6 to 10 that were newly introduced in LAS 1.4. These LAS 1.4 file will no longer be compatible with earlier versions of LAS software and will not be readable by forward compatible LAS 1.0 to LAS 1.3 readers.
