The project could have several potential long-term impacts.  

* First, it will make learning hands-on J2EE and Web Services concepts and technologies easier, both for students taking conventional courses and for students learning in a variety of Web- and Internet-enabled situations.  

* Second, courseware plug-ins will be developed that could be used for materials for other courses and subject areas.  

* Third, extensive work will be done both to produce a body of reusable lesson components in the target content area but also to understand how to write and structure materials so that they can be composed to produce "documents" - both static and virtual - that are effective and graceful.  

* Fourth, a substantial set of system software will be developed to support reusable lessons components within an enterprise computing framework (i.e., WebSphere, WebSphere Studio, and DB2).
