Biography

Kevin Jeffay is the Gillian T. Cell Distinguished Professor of Computer Science in the Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also serves as Chair for the department. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1989.

Research Areas

His research and teaching interests are in computer networks, real-time systems, operating systems, and multimedia systems. He and his students focus on the general problem of improving the performance of communication services on the Internet.

Developing protocols that can connect commercial aircraft fitted with long-range directional links into an Airborne mesh Network capable of connecting users on-board, and on the ground to the Internet.	Explicit specification of structure, semantics, SLAs, and resource requirements of Virtualized Applications can be used to provide better, more predictable performance than existing management/placement solutions.	Educating students for exploring networks of the future, using GENI (Global Environment for Network Innovations). Teach/Learn the principles of networking using our simple education modules.
