(Ashish and Ping, please update this as you go along if you notice any errors or anything.)
First, get the hardware information off of each machine (from tyagi).
/usr/dirt/bin/do_all_machines -n -q -t -M /usr/dirt/config/<machine list file> -cmd "rsh MACHINE /usr/dirt/bin/getcfg.csh > /tmp/config
Then, convert this config file to an Excel-readable CSV (comma-separated values) file using parse_inv.pl
. (Note: tyagi has a very old version of Perl, and cannot run this script.)
/usr/dirt/bin/parse_inv.pl /tmp/config > /tmp/config.csv
Lastly, read this file using Excel to generate a pretty inventory list.
Note: for a complete inventory, we need to also ensure that the machine list files are up to date, as well as the net diagrams. Ashish, Ping, we'll talk about this next week.
