Augmented Reality HMDs

These Head Mounted Displays are aimed to assist the medical practitioner and others in their augmented surgical applications in providing a true presence to robotic and standard endoscopic surgeries.  Utilizing video instead of optical see through is more effective for close-up work such as surgery for one is better able to fully occlude unwanted imagery, synchronize lag, and maintain control over larege intensity variations of real and synthetic images. Several newer versions of these video see-through HMDs have been built and utilized on real patients at UNC.  A newer, commercial version of these video see-through HMDs is being sold by InnerOptic Technology, Inc.  InnerOptic Technology has exclusively licensed the UNC developed HMD technology and is part of the UNC licensed 3D Laparoscopic System.
