Welcome! My name is Sang-Uok Kum and I am a graduate student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My advisor is Prof. Ketan Mayer-Patel.
I just defended my Ph.D. dissertation in May so I am currently searching for a job. If you think I am a good match for your position, contact me.
For my Ph.D. dissertation, I have developed algorithms for encoding multiple depth streams. Depth streams are similar to video streams except that each pixel in a frame has depth information as well as color. Using multiple depth streams, dynamic real world environment can be captured, represented, and transmitted for use in systems such as 3D immersive systems, tele-immersion conferencing systems, 3D TV, and medical consultation and surgical training. Using the spatial coherence between streams and temporal coherence between frames, I have developed effective encoding techniques for compressing multiple depth streams.
Prior to my Ph.D. studies, I recieved my MS in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 1999. I received my undergraduate degree in Astronomy with a minor in Computer Science from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, in February 1996.
