Spherical Panoramas

I took some pictures with a fisheye lens in order to stitch some spherical panoramas.  So far I have put together only a few.  More to come as I get time to process the images.  Start with the atrium; it's a beautiful room.

To view these panoramas,

  1. Make sure you have a recent copy of Apple's Quicktime installed.  If you need it, click here to get it.
  2. The panoramas look best when viewed at high resolution large screens (projectors, for example).  Maximize your browser.
  3. Click on one of the images below.
  4. Sometimes on my browser the small circular cursor used by Quicktime stays active, even on other windows.  To correct that, click back from the panorama to get to this window.

Suburban Baths, atrium

Suburban Baths, Frigidarium

Outside Suburban Baths

Urban Baths, Laconicum

The pictures were taken with a Canon Rebel XT and a Sigma 8mm F3.5 EX DG fisheye lens.  The images were stitched using PTGui.

A Panorama in Google Earth

If you have a copy of Google Earth installed, try the following

  1. Click on this link.

  2. The panorama will appear on top of the ground like a glass ball.  Center it on the Goggle Earth screen.

  3. Tilt using the middle mouse button.

  4. You can then use the rotation icon on the upper right of the screen (it appears when you move your mouse there) to spin around the glass ball.

I found the code and procedure at the Digital Urban web pages.  It's very cool, although also very tricky to navigate.
