Obama Campaign Internships with the North Carolina Data Team

My name is Craig Erdrich and I am the Data Director for Barack Obama’s Campaign for Change in North Carolina.

We are in urgent need of interns for the North Carolina data team. Our primary need right now is help setting up a SQL database or some other database system to run analyses and pull information on new registrations from the state Voter File. We have the files we want to analyze and a powerful workstation on which to run the queries -- you might say that we have a shiny new car with a full tank of gas but no one who knows how to switch gears without stalling. We are looking for drivers -- students with SQL or database programming experience who are willing to devote at least 12 hours a week to the campaign.

Our statewide HQ is in Raleigh and some travel here would be necessary but we are open to having a student or a group of students work remotely.

Barack Obama’s Campaign for Change Internships with the North Carolina Data Team

Senator Obama's candidacy for President has inspired millions of Americans to believe in their power to restore America’s future. We are looking for eager, dedicated people to be a part of this movement and help elect the next President of the United States. This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and no previous campaign experience is necessary.

We are accepting internship applicants to join the data team. Data is the backbone of our field operation here, and this internship will provide you with a unique opportunity to use your technical skills towards helping Barack Obama get elected. Interns will assist with all the behind-the-scenes work that enables us to build our volunteer base, identify and register new voters, and get out the vote. Applicants should have strong organizational skills; keen attention to detail; experience working with Excel; and the ability to work well in a fast-paced, team environment. Experience with Microsoft Access, SQL or other database applications are highly desired but not necessary. Javascript would be handy too. We are looking for a significant level of time commitment, at least 12 hours a week, and this is a volunteer non-paid internship. Our office is located in the Raleigh area.

If you are interested in joining the movement, reply to this posting with your resume and the following information:

  • Your contact details
  • In what year did you graduate, or when will you graduate?
  • What motivates you to help Barack Obama get elected President?
  • What relevant skills and experience do you have, in particular with the software listed above?
  • List any questions you have
