Tutor

Dear Dr. Prins,

As I mentioned on the phone today, we are looking for a tutor or teacher for my son, Mark, who is interested in learning more about programming. He is 13-years-old and is homeschooled, so his schedule during the day is fairly flexible. He took a Java class last year and loved it and has also done some ray tracing using POV-Ray. He has been trying to teach himself C++ on and off for a year or so using some books that we have, but he needs some help. He would also love to eventually learn how to use DirectX.

If you have any students in your department who are interested, we would love to hire someone to work with him. We were thinking of someone who could either meet with him at our home (half way between Hillsborough and Chapel Hill near Maple View Dairy) or at a neutral location in town or on campus (library, coffee shop, etc) once a week for an hour or so and who might also be available to answer occasional questions by e-mail during the week. We could either structure the teaching so that he was working through one of the books we have, or if a tutor had a curriculum or text in mind, we would be fine with working with that instead.

Thanks very much for any help you might be able to find for us,

Nancy Oglesby

Vinyl Records, Prospective Students for Hire

We are Vinyl Records, a non-profit, volunteer-based, student-run record label serving the UNC-Chapel Hill community. We are currently seeking a select number of employees as well as a web and design team so that we can be fully established before our official launch this fall. Much has already been accomplished, including securing an office in Hill Hall (room 225) and most of the company’s skeletal structure (an organizational layout, 30 page business plan), and the establishment of close relationships with many campus and community organizations. We would appreciate it if you could please recommend some of your most qualified students for our program and invite them to attend one of our informational sessions on Sunday, January 27 at either 4pm or 7pm in Murphy 116. If they cannot attend either meeting, have them email us at vinylrecords@unc.edu. Please forward this e-mail with the attached flyer to selected students. Also, if you yourself are interested, we would love for you to attend. Vinyl Records will accept applications from faculty, staff, grad, and undergrad students as this program engages the entire campus community. Below is a brief overview of our business venture. Thank you for your time.

Best regards,

Al Mask and Tripp Gobble
