ESL TA position available

The Graduate School at UNC Chapel Hill invites applications for the position of English as a Second Language Teaching Assistant for the 2010-2011 academic year. This position focuses on graduate student development in the Preparing International Teaching Assistants Program (PITAP). PITAP is a series of courses which focuses on English language skills, cross-cultural communication skills, and pedagogical skills.

The ESL Teaching Assistant will co-teach PITAP courses. Specific tasks include:

* Assess the English language needs of PITAP students
* Develop and teach language and classroom communication lessons
* Create supporting materials and resources for students
* Coordinate support programs including undergraduate classroom and language consultants

Candidates need to be a current graduate student, preferred from communications, linguistics, and education programs with a focus on culture, teaching, and/or linguistic development. Prior ESL teaching experience is required. Expected time commitment is 15-20 hours per week for the full academic year. Compensation and benefits provided.
