| TIGER TOPS GETTING THERE THE JUNGLE LODGE ELEPHANT TREK TENTED CAMP |
![]() Checkpoint at park entrance Tiger Tops is a lodge in Chitwan National Park, Nepal. I visited Chitwan in October of 1998 for three days just before a trek in the Kumbu (Everest) region of Nepal. My trip was arranged by Jim Wilcox of Travel Experts in Raleigh through the company that manages Tiger Tops, Tiger Mountain. Have a look at the web page for the lodges (also the history of Tiger Mountain, the first trekking company in Nepal). The attraction of Tiger Tops is the animal life including, of course, tigers. Did I get lucky enough to see a tiger? Read on.
I flew into Kathmandu and spent the night at the Malla Hotel. Getting to Tiger Tops is a little involved. First I took a flight on Lumbini Airlines from Kathmandu to Meghauli, a very small town in southern Nepal, near the border with India.
The landing field is only used for a few flights a day, so most of the time cattle can graze on it. When a plane approaches, the airport personnel sound a siren (it's a large crank siren) and chase the animals off. The siren is right in front of the airport building (below). You may have to click through to the larger image to see it. It took more work to get to Tiger Tops. We had to ride three sets of Land Rovers and cross two rivers. |
