My "room" at the tent camp.

The Tented Camp is much more basic than the Jungle Lodge and, to me, much more fun. It is small, only 12 tents, each with 2 beds. When I was there, there were only about five other guests . The accommodations are wall tents like the one shown above. Behind the tent is a bathroom hut, with the normal facilities, including a hot-water shower. The whole thing is roofed over with a thatched roof, keeping you dry even when you go out to the bathroom (although I didn't get to test this because it didn't rain during my stay; the weather was great, although hot). The metal object on the post (towards the right of the picture) is a reflector for a kerosene lamp. That works very well since it lights up your tent without attracting bugs into it.

The main building has a bar and lounge area. The meals are also brought there and served buffet style. My notes say we had buffalo meatballs for lunch and goat curry for dinner. The food was great. There's a game-watching platform on the other side. They clear some of the grass below so you can see animals. It's very relaxing.

Alas, no tigers here either. Tracks were the best I could do. Apparently there are only a handful of tiger sightings per year.

The camp is not for late risers. They woke me up at 5:30 AM again to go on an elephant trek, then it was a drive and boats back to Meghauli to catch the flight to Kathmandu.

RETURN -- to Nepal 98 trip.
