I went to Brazil to give an invited talk at the SVR track of IMIGRA, the Brazilian graphics conference. Celso Kurashima presented a paper (co-authored with Ruigang Yang and me) at the SIBGRAPI track.
On the way, I spent a couple of days in Sao Paolo to attend Celso's PhD proposal meeting. My host was his advisor, Marcelo Zuffo. This was a very nice stop where I discovered the Brazilian churrascaria, a steak restaurant. Waiters make the rounds of the tables with meat that has been roasted on the spit. It's an all-you-can-eat deal and the food is wonderful and (at least to folks from the U.S.) cheap.
The conference was in the city of Fortaleza, which is by the sea.

I also spent the weekend on the island of Fernando de Noronha.
