Saturday on Fernando de Noronha

Today I took an island boat tour in the morning, and went diving in the afternoon.  The tour was part of the package that got me here.  Amazingly enough, the boat was named Happy Days.  It's obvious that Brazilians watch reruns also because a few of them started singing the theme from the old TV show when they saw that silly boat.

I got a good view of the fort from the water.

As the boat was leaving the harbor, a pod of porpoises started swimming around the bow.  Maybe the boat captain knew where to go because it seemed like a detour to me.

Below is a hole in the rock near yesterday's first dive.  To the right of it is a closeup.

They took me back to my pousada.  I had lunch again at the same place as yesterday.  By the way, beer around here is 2 reais, about 60 cents.

This afternoon was a similar affair to yesterday.  The Nautilus truck stopped to get me and I rented fins on the way (I packed very light on this trip).  Below are the woman who handles things at the dock, and the one who seems to run the operation.

Here's one of the Nautilus catamarans,

and the captain.

The boat is pretty nice.  The tank arrangements are good so it's easy to gear up.

Below is a picture of Nicole and the lead dviemaster. Nicole was very nice, and served as my interpreter.  She is German and told me that she worked on the Utah Olympics and is soon headed for Athens to work on the next Summer Olympics.  Interesting life.

Headed back home tomorrow.  It'll take over 24 hours of traveling!
