Sunday on Fernando de Noronha

[ Back ]

I didn't have much time today because my flight left at 1:30.  I took a stroll down the beach that's near my pousada.  Actually, there are a series of beaches separated by rock outcroppings.

This is a bar that's between two of the beaches.

I could have easily spent a day hanging around that beach and bar.  A nearby beach also had some sort of concession with chairs and umbrellas.

Conclusions

My experience with diving is limited, so my opinion must be weighed taking that into account.  Although there are nice fish, the bottom is all about the same color.  There's none of the beauty of the Caribbean reefs.  The Nautilus operation was safe and competent, but they are not set up for foreign visitors.  In fact, nothing on the island is.

The good part is that it's a beautiful, laid back place with friendly people.  There are not too many tourists because of the restrictions. There was never a wait or a crowded restaurant.  I think it takes more than a couple of days to really see the place, especially if you're also diving.  I really didn't get to explore a lot of the island.  It's good and bad that it's so hard to get here.
